What is orthodontics?
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the straightening of teeth and alignment of the jaws. Crooked teeth often do not fit together correctly, are harder to keep clean and have increased risk of tooth decay and gum disease. In some cases, these functional problems can lead to headaches and jaw pain. Correctly aligned teeth help with the functions of eating and chewing, are easier to clean and can boost-self confidence and self-esteem.
What age is best for orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment is suitable for children as young as 8 years and for adults of any age. With more people, especially adults, actively looking to keep their appearance youthful, and an attractive, healthy smile can help with this. First impressions matter and a bright friendly smile builds self-confidence and helps make the most of your life both at work and socially.
Here at Bristol Dental Specialists, our Specialist Orthodontists Ben Cross, Bethan Lewis and Darren Hills, have all received specific certified training and are registered on the GDC specialist list demonstrating that they have the skills and expertise to know exactly which treatment will be best for your teeth. We understand how the different features of the mouth and face interact to give us not just our looks but also influence how we eat, smile and develop.
Here at Bristol Dental Specialists we are also pleased to offer Dental Hygiene treatments that may be relevant prior to or as part of your Orthodontic Treatment Plan. We are also able to offer Teeth Whitening as a finishing touch at the end of your Orthodontic treatment journey (subject to clinical suitability). Please note that these services may also be available from your current general dentist if you have been referred to us.
