“I always endeavour to save teeth where possible and this starts first and foremost with a healthy foundation, the gums. I am passionate about Periodontics (gum treatment) and working closely with my patients to achieve optimum gum health to ensure the best possible long-term results.”
James graduated from Cardiff University. After a number of junior hospital and dental practice jobs he was then appointed as a specialist registrar at Bristol Dental Hospital, where he completed a five year full-time specialist training programme in Restorative Dentistry. During this training he developed a particular interest in periodontology.
James was awarded his membership of the faculty of dental surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2012 and was awarded his fellowship in 2018.
In 2017 James was appointed the Lead Consultant for Restorative Dentistry for CTM University Health Board and in that role he provides prosthodontic, periodontic and dental implant oral rehabilitations for patients following surgery for head and neck cancer. He also rehabilitates young patients with dental developmental anomalies.
James has benefited from dental placements in the United States of America and has published a number of scientific articles in dental journals, as well as presenting at international scientific meetings.
James main clinical interests are in the management of peri-implantitis, periodontal soft tissue surgery, guided bone regeneration, non-surgical periodontics, removable prosthodontics, minimally invasive adhesive dentistry, management of toothwear and provision of dental implant retained prosthodontics.
When not working James enjoys travelling with his wife, they have a ‘scratch map’, which they are doing their best to complete! In his ‘down’ time he can be found at his local tennis club.
